Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2011 Makeup

Hello Beauties!
Happy Monday :). The weekends have been flying by too fast, I think it’s because xmas is coming up and I haven’t done any of my shopping yet. Ah, well, I’ll make it happen ;). As you all know, last week the Victoria’s Secret fashion show aired so I decided to recreate the makeup for all of you. Although the show itself is very glam and over the top, the makeup was pretty subdued and low maintenance.

A few behind the scenes pics from the show. These women are some kind of obnoxiously attractive species of female, it’s really not fair :P.

The look was based around flawless skin, rosy cheeks, strategic highlighting, and lightly defined eyes. Sorry for the pic quality, it was one of those days!
Photobucket The eyes were lined in black with a slight wing on the outer corners, followed up with lots of mascara and groomed brows.

The foundation was buffed in really well and blush was applied right on the apples of cheeks, carried a little higher into the hairline. Lips were a soft, glossy pink.

::Products and application::
Face:
-MUFE HD primer buffed in with a flat top foundation buffer.
-MUFE Matt Velvet + foundation buffed in really well with a flat top foundation buffer. Applied two very thin coats for best coverage.
-MUFE Full Cover concealer on blemishes and under eyes.
-Tarte Smooth Operator translucent powder buffed over foundation.
-MAC Well Dressed and Stunner blushes blended together starting on the apples of the cheeks, carrying the leftover color up along cheekbones to the hairline.
-Cargo bronzer (the lightest shade) blended along hairline, along hollows of cheekbones, and jawline.
-Laura Mercier highlighting powder in Starlight blended on top of cheekbones going up and around brows.

Eyes:
-Revlon Colorstay liquid liner.
-Covergirl Lashblast mascara.

Lips:
-Rimmel 1000 kisses lip liner in Natural.
-MAC Creme Cup lipstick.
-Smashbox Pixel gloss.

What did you think of the show? Let me know if you recreate the look, I’d love to see!

Product Rave: It’s a 10 Plus Keratin

Photobucket The Angel game I went to with the bf last weekend :).

Hi Babes!
I just want to say I’m sorry, I haven’t had much of a chance to blog. I have quite a bit of homework for my Anthro class and last week was spent running around picking things up for the bridal makeup trial I did (!!). The trial went beautifully and my stylist, Jessica, said I was hired :D. Here’s a quick picture of the lovely bride to be. I should have slowed down and taken better pics, but I was too excited lol. When I got home and uploaded the pics, they all showed up too dark. BUT, I will take good shots on the big day to post; or I might have to steal some of her professional ones :P.

She asked for a purple smokey eye :). I know many brides opt for a neutral look, but Jessica is such a bright, beautiful person– browns just wouldn’t have felt right. Can’t wait till you guys see the dress, its dramatic details beg for a more dramatic makeup look. Anyway, we took our time to get the look just right and I’m looking forward to recreating it in November when she gets married. I had an absolute blast working with you, Jeca! Thank you for asking me to be a part of your big day :).

Jessica traded my services for a hair cut and surprised me with a bottle of this amazing, life changing, ground shaking product as a tip. The last time she cut my hair, she used It’s a 10 Plus Keratin and I could not get over how shiny and healthy my tresses felt after. When I went into Ulta to check out pricing, I decided to wait, given the $20 price tag for a 4 oz. bottle. Last Friday, before we started working on her makeup, she came out of her room holding an enormous 10 oz bottle of the stuff and I had to restrain myself from doing an embarrassing happy dance LOL. Here’s the product description from the site:

I’ve been using this product daily for about a week now and my hair looks AND feels healthier. When I get out of the shower, I spritz It’s a 10 a couple of times throughout my hair and then comb it through while I detangle. If I leave the product in my hair for an hour, my hair feels incredibly soft and silky. If I dry my hair right after applying, it’s still soft and it styles really easily (while controlling my baby hairs). My split ends look so much better and my 2nd day hair isn’t out of control; I can skip a day of washing without it feeling yucky.

Yesterday morning, I tried to shake the bottle to feel how much I had used and there wasn’t a swishing liquid sound. When I helt it up to the light, I saw that it was a thick cream. This was surprising to me because the spray never felt heavy and has not weighed my hair down at all.

It’s a 10 doesn’t really have much of a scent that I can detect, so it doesn’t conflict with any of my perfumes, something I can really appreciate.

Now, to talk about pricing. The 4 oz. bottle is about $20 and the 10 oz. bottle is about $40 at normal retailers. Because Jessica is a hair stylist, she’s able to get it at a much better price, but not everyone has awesome stylist that will pick bottles up for them (lol). I asked Jeca to bring me a couple when we meet for her wedding, but I’ll be on my own after that because she lives up north. Would I still pick this up at full retail? Yes, in a heart beat.  Because I haven’t seen my hair look this healthy since before I started dyeing it, I would be willing to cut other little luxuries once every few months to be able to afford this.

I give It’s a 10 Plus Keratin an A+, 5/5 stars, a thumbs up…you get the idea. Miracle product, indeed!

Have you tried the It’s a 10 line? If not, what’s your favorite product to keep your tresses healthy and happy?

Bronzer Basics

Hello Beauties :),

I hope you’re all having a good Monday! I got a text from my bff a little while ago, letting me know she had just landed after being in Italy for a month. I haven’t seen her for five weeks so I took tomorrow off for a bff day that includes Target roaming, mani/pedis, and having a huge meal at In-N-Out burger. Can’t wait!

Earlier today, I was on Facebook and one of my high school friends posted this:

LOL, I know I’ve picked products up before and felt the same way. I asked her what she bought, and she said it was the Mineralize Skinfinish in Gold Deposit to use as a bronzer, but didn’t know how to use it. I’m putting this post together for Tracy and all of the newbie bronzer users. Trust me, it took a while for me to embrace bronzer and get it just right. Here’s a face chart I drew guidelines on for where bronzer goes:

Photobucket

I’ve tried all kinds of different application methods, but applying the bronzer in the shape of a three has been the one that provides the best and most natural looking results for me. To start off, you need a good brush. For a lighter application, I use the e.l.f. complexion brush; the bristles are really soft and fluffy, so it doesn’t pick up a ton of product. Swirl the brush in the bronzer, lightly tap off the excess, and start buffing the product into your skin in about one to two inch swirls. Here are some pointers:

-Blend, blend, blend your heart out! The worst thing you can do with bronzer is apply it in one sweep and then just let it sit on top of your skin. You have to blend away the lines of demarcation so it looks natural and warms up to your skin.

-Do not apply bronzer all over your face unless you’re a pro. This creates a dirty/ruddy looking complexion that flatters no one. Sparkly bronzers are especially bad in this case, they’ll make you look shiny. Try to follow the three shape to start off and go from there as you get more comfortable. Example of bad all over bronzer below:

Photobucket

-Don’t use a product more than two…maybe three shades darker than your skin tone (I say three for those of us that have been out and tanned everywhere except our face lol). You’re not trying to change your skin color completely and this wont look natural at all. You want this to look like sunkissed color, not fake.

-Once you learn to gauge the amount of product you need, try a flat top brush like the e.l.f. powder brush for application. This brush blends like a dream, but can be iffy for blush/bronzer application if you’re new or heavy handed.

-Remember to start off with a little bit of product. You can always add more and it’s easier than having to wash your face and start all over again.

-Make sure you blend the product well along your hairline, ears, and neck…you don’t want to be two-toned.

-If you got a little excited with the bronzer and need to tone it down, you can buff some of it away with a clean brush and some powder in your natural skin tone. Remember to blend like crazy!

-If in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask me for anymore pointers. You can email me at nessalovesmakeup@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you asap.

I hope this has been at least a little bit helpful, Tracy!

What tips do you have for bronzer application?

Getting Liz Dolled Up!

Hi Beauties,
I hope you’re all having an amazing long weekend! I’ve been spending a lot of time with my girlfriends, sleeping in, and catching up on some favorite shows.
One of my closest friends, Liz, asked me to do her makeup for a wedding yesterday. I always have so much fun doing other people’s makeup, and it felt so nice to get a text from her at the end of the night saying, “I don’t want to wash it off!!” :).
